Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports organizes meeting at CHC Helicopter at Den Helder Airport

Will it be flying or sailing? That is the question that Den Helder Airport asked itself.
Den Helder Airport has been facilitating helicopter flights to oil and gas platforms in the North Sea for 50 years. An efficient and reliable modality for transporting crew members in an offshore environment. Now that the energy transition has started, the demand for crew transport is also shifting towards offshore wind farms. Ships are widely used as a means of transport in this sector. With EU plans to 25-fold the capacity of the offshore wind farm in the North Sea and with it maintenance work, there will be an increasing demand for crew transport.

In that light, Den Helder Airport has published the report by To70: “Impact study on helicopter and vessel operations servicing offshore wind farms” to determine which transport is most suitable for which purpose in terms of efficiency, sustainability, safety and costs. Helicopters, ships or perhaps drones?
